Preparation as Harvest Draws Near

The time is here! Can you believe summer is almost over and you're already getting the kids back in school…thank goodness, right? Or maybe you wish you had a few more weeks before harvest. Depending on how your growing season went can definitely play a part in how “ready” you really feel. Lucky for you, we made a list for you to use to check off as you prep for harvest.
Scout Your Fields for Pest, Disease, and Crop Stress
It wouldn’t make sense to go into harvest blind to what your crops look like. Scouting and monitoring your crops during the growing season is critical to ensuring what fertilizer to add to certain passes or what pesticides to use, and how much you should use on your fields. This is time-consuming as it is very “boots-on-the-ground,” but modern technology has helped lighten the load with:
- Satellite Remote Sensing for Crop Monitoring
- Drones and Aerial Imagery for Farming
- Mobile Apps for Field Scouting and Record Keeping
This is to name just a few that we find the most beneficial. Without this, you wouldn’t know the health of your crops or have an idea of your potential yield.
Evaluate Your Crop Health: What Needs Attention
Now we are really getting into the “weed”, eh? Well, kinda. Crops will tell you everything you need to know. When it comes to corn, their stalks will split when there is disease or degradation. Such diseases include tar spot, anthracnose crown, stem rot, Fusarium crown rot, and many more. With soybeans, there is a common disease at the end of the season called anthracnose or pod and stem blight; keep an eye out for this!
With all crops,
if yields are down in specific areas of the field, it’s time to question: what fertilizer did you use, how much of it, what's the soil pH, what pests are around, and what was the weather like this growing season? Be sure to discuss all of your concerns with your agronomist to ensure any problems will not happen again. On the bright side, if you have a “Home Run Zone”, where your crops are doing incredibly well, keep notes so you can do that across your entire field.
Start planning fall applications and fertility needs
Fall is an ideal time to apply dry fertilizer nutrients for fall and spring planting, and to support soil health. But not all fertilizer applications are created equal, and this is where NanoCote™ by Nano-Yield® makes the biggest difference. By enhancing every granule with advanced nanotechnology, NanoCote maximizes the efficiency, longevity, and return on investment of post-harvest fertilizer applications.
The key benefits of NanoCote are:
- Nutrient Efficiency
- Slow Release Performance
- Soil Health
- Microbial Stimulation
- Higher ROI
